The holy Prophet mentioned that a ( Al-rui’a juz min sitatin wa urbaeena juz min nabawate) meaning that pious man’s dream is equivalent to one forty sixth part of Divine revelation. Thus the process of dream is a form of communication between the Creator and the creation. The prophet on his death bed told his companions that “Ba’adi wafati yantaqil wahi wala yantaqil mubasharat” (after my death the process of revelation will cease but dreams will continue). This saying of the prophet is a solid evidence on the existence of dreams as Mubasharat (happy tidings). Muslims do not need further proof on this subject because the words of the prophet is the final tenet of their faith. The prophet also categorized dreams into three classes…..<\/p>\n
1. Informer or Which convey Glad Tidings.<\/strong><\/p>\n The pious individuals are shown the glimpses of their heavenly abode (life in the hereafter) in a dream while they are still alive (la’humul bushra fil haiyatul dunyia). They are also guided in their lives on this earth and in turn they guide other human beings with their wisdom.<\/p>\n The prophet taught his companions to recite this prayer before going to sleep.” Allah, I seek your refuge from bad dreams and Satan’s subterfuge and save me from punishment on the day of resurrection.” Such dreams are caused by sleeplessness and indigestion and are signs of psychosomatic illness. It needs extreme care to distinguish them from the true dreams.An experienced dream interpreter will diagnose the true nature of this type of dreams. The prophet also mentioned that nearer to resurrection, dreams will become confused. The true dreams will only come to pious persons only.<\/p>\n Muhammad Ibn Seerin was the leader of all dream interpreters and even today his interpretations are accepted as landmarks. He classified dreams into two kinds. Imam Jaafar Sadiq classified dreams into three categories. Danial classified dreams into two main categories. The dreams which are true can be of three types; a) Mubashar (Glad Tidings). \nIn the morning, the prophet used to interpret dreams of his companions. He used to say ” A dream will take effect according to how it is interpreted.” and also it is his saying that” A dream rests on the feathers of a bird and will not take effect unless it is related to someone.” Another saying of the prophet is that” Tell your dreams only to knowledgeable person and loved ones.” Dreams should not be told to your enemies, children or impious persons. It is narrated in the Qur’an that Jacob (a.s) instructed his son Joseph (a.s) ” My dear son, do not let your brothers know this dream, lest they hatch a plot against you, for Satan is man’s confirmed enemy.” (Qur’an 12:5). It is very essential to keep the contents of a dream secret from laymen and ignorant.<\/p>\n3. Dreams that are Distractors (imbroglio)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\na) Caused due to Avarice or greedy temperament.
\nb) Caused by Satanical temperament.
\nc) Caused by setting unreasonably selfish goals.
\nAll such dreams are not right material for interpretation because they are not true. It is reported that diffusive nature of the dreams are reflection of recorded fate of the sinner in the Loh-e-mahfooz (Master Record).
\nAll dreams are brought to the dreamer by an angel under the order of Allah. One of the beautiful aspect of a true dream is that a dreamer witnesses beforehand what is about to happens in real life. Another aspect of the same is that a less intelligent or a retarded individual also gets an indication of some tragic happening to him in his real life. \nAn individual is informed through his dreams about of future events affecting his life or any of his near and dear ones.
\n2. Warning or Guidance types
\nWarning or guidance types of dreams are further sub- divided into four categories.
\na) Divine Order:- Dreams which convey Divine orders to pious individuals to refrain from doing certain acts harmful either to them or to the community they serve.
\nb) Divine Informant:- In the dream the person is given an indication or information about the impending events
\nof his interest.
\nc) Divine Warnings:- This category of dreams do warn its subject of the impending danger or dangers which are of immediate consequence to him.
\nd) Good News Imparter:- The person is given a good news either directly or indirectly of the happening to him or any of his immediate family or any of his disciples.<\/p>\nE: Jabir on the other hand classified the dreams into two kinds:<\/strong><\/h2>\n
1. True Dreams<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\nA dream which informs the dreamer of the happiness impending for him. Such dreams are recorded in the Loh-i-Mahfooz and gives glad tidings to the individual about his good and bad record in the book (Loh-i-Mahfooz).
\nb) Tehdeed (Threatening).
\nThe dreams which guide the dreamer on certain acts he plans to do in life. In such dreams the angel of dreams whose name is Malikul Ruhia (Angle of dreams) instructs the individual to refrain from evil deeds shown to him in his dream.
\nc) llhami (revelatory).
\nDreams which inform or reveal certain aspects related to the individual or to his close ones are called llhami (revelatory) dreams. He is informed to ward off impending through prayers and service to others.<\/p>\n2. False Dreams<\/h3>\n
