Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once remarked when a person witnesses a good dream, he should thank his Creator. If.his dream is scary he must recite ” Auzo Bill Allah hi Minishaitonirajeem ( I seek protection of Allah from Satan). He should distribute alms to the poor and needy and say his prayers. For scary dreams one should pray and change his side and recite a few verses from the holy Quran.The holy book mentions existence of three categories of dreams . Such as;……..
Bad or Scary type of dreams are due to bad ideas or sleeplessness. These are warnings from pious persons to the dreamer. Such warnings come from the souls of pious persons.
Sometimes there is a warning transmitted to the subject through an angel about certain events which are to affect the person. Here an exact event is witnessed in a dream. A number of Prophets were forewarned through their dreams of coming events. Such dreams are reflective and provide the mirror image of events which befalls or about to affect the subject. Such dreams were prerogative of prophet Ibrahim.
These are third kind of dreams which need interpretation because they are allegorical in nature. Examples of such dreams were reported to be those which Prophet Joseph interpreted for the king ( seven fat cows and seven lean cows) of Egypt. The grains of seven good years of com production was stored for the following seven years of drought to avert famine in the country. The famous dream of Pharaoh (slaughter of new born babies of Egypt) belongs to this category. Pious and faithful persons usually are guided in their dreams. Dreams that guide pious individuals are dreams of this category. The famous story of Prophet Ibrahim,who was instructed through dream to establish the institution of lamb sacrifice at Makkah. Individuals who are instructed like prophet Ibrahim are classified as Ibrahami in nature (based on the nature of prophet Ibrahim). This category of dreams are often dream reflective manner.
The third category of persons are those who dream similar to prophet Joseph, who dreamed about his abduction years before his exile to Egypt (Also his wife Zulaikha saw him in her dream years before marriage but it took many years and an uneventful her first marriage before that dream was realized). There are thousands of famous dreams to cite for our readers but we purposely restrict ourselves to present only modern developments in the field of dream interpretation.
